Literature Text

Verse 1

Throwing back my head to feel the slightest sting of rain on my face,
I go back to the time when you were holding my hand,
doin' the same thing in a different place.
We were six years old and as close as two friends could be.
You were so full of joy and always laughin' and bein' bold so that everyone could see.

Chorus:
But now, you're just a dream of mine,
One that always ends too soon.
Even though you're not with me now
your presence shines just like the light of the moon.

Verse 2
As we grew up, you'd never tolerate things being dull,
As you pushed at fate sometimes throwing caution to the wind, and the rain.
You lived your life with your heart open wide.
But it was a life cut way too short for you, my beloved friend.

Chorus:
Because now, you're just a dream of mine,
One that always ends too soon.
Even though you're not with me now,
your presence shines just like the light of the moon.

Bridge:
And I sit beside a cold stone engraved with your name,
An unfitting reminder of a girl who lived and loved and lost without restraint,
But you will always and forever remain in my mind.
Laughing as a young girl, dancing in the rain.

Chorus:
But now, you're just a dream of mine,
One that always ends too soon.
Even though you're not with me now,
your presence shines just like the light of the moon.
These are actually lyrics to a song that I wrote about one of my best friends who died in 1997. Last year I met a songwriter online and he had read some of my other poetry. He asked would I like to write lyrics and he would write the music for it. I jumped at the opportunity and I knew the first lyrics I wrote would be about my friend, Tami, who passed on. I hope you enjoy this small tribute to her life. She was a beautiful and loving person who is missed very much by her family and friends.

My songwriter friend, Jukas Kayne, [link] and I have written other songs as well now. He does a wonderful job of expressing in music what I am trying to convey with the lyrics. If you would like to hear them you can find them at [link]
